Verify my registration before you pay

Why this matters

Embassies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, courts and government departments accept certified translations produced by sworn translators — translators appointed under the authority of the Ministry of Justice after passing its examination and taking an oath before a District Court. A translation from an unregistered agency or freelancer, however accurate, can be rejected outright, costing you your visa appointment or filing deadline.

Every genuine sworn translation carries the translator's rubber stamp showing their name, the designation "Sworn Translator", their registration number, the languages they are sworn in for, and their contact details. If any of those are missing, ask questions.

How to check any sworn translator (including me)

1. Ask for the translator's registration number. A registered translator will give it without hesitation — mine is printed on this page, on every certification, and in the footer of every page of this site.
2. Check the number against the Ministry of Justice public register of sworn translators, available on the Ministry's website (moj.gov.lk), which lists each translator's name, district and language pair.
3. Confirm the language pair. A translator sworn for Sinhala–English is not authorised to certify Chinese–English translations. Chinese–English is a rare pair on the register — verify that the translator you engage actually holds it.

What certification looks like

Each certified translation is issued with the official stamp and signature on the translation itself, a confirmation of accuracy, and a copy of the source document attached — so the receiving officer can compare the two side by side. Chinese-language certifications carry the bilingual confirmation 「翻译确认无误」 ("translation confirmed accurate").
